2008 BUYER’S GUIDE

This is our annual listing of suppliers for airborne law enforcement needs. This issue also provides insight on budgeting and purchasing as well as information regarding programs providing equipment and supplies to eligible law enforcement agencies, making it the goto source for the law enforcement aviation buyer. All Affiliate Member companies are identified by our Affiliate Wings Logo. Additionally, stars are incorporated into the wing logo to delineate each Affiliate’s participation as an exhibitor at our Regional Safety Seminars and Annual Conference & Exposition over the previous 12 months.

JANUARY / FEBRUARY – Safety

In accordance with our safety program name and motto, “Safety First”, our first bi-monthly issue of 2008 focuses on safety. This issue highlights “Safety First”, the progress of that focus, and other safety initiatives, such as the International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST), in which the Association is involved. A detailed discussion on Safety Management Systems (SMS) will be included. We kick off this year’s Affiliate Profiles featuring the manufacturers of miscellaneous technologies with a look at collision avoidance system manufacturers Avidyne Corp., Honeywell/Bendix King, and L3 Communications, Avionics Systems.

MARCH / APRIL – Women in Airborne Law Enforcement

One of our most popular issues of the past, it’s been six years since we last looked at the contributions of women in airborne law enforcement. We spotlight female unit commanders, pilots, tactical flight officers, maintenance technicians and marketing specialists. The miscellaneous technologies manufacturer’s Affiliate Profiles highlight ground handling equipment manufacturers J. B. Knowles, Inc, Main Line Corp., and Paravion Technology, Inc. Conference and Expo Preview Issue Houston, we have a conference. Houston, Texas plays host to the ALEA’s 38th Annual Conference and Exposition, July 14-19, 2008. This issue previews the pre-conference courses, the main conference classes, the exposition, the host city and the host agencies. It also provides housing and registration information and a listing of those vendors registered to exhibit. Join us in the Lone Star State and take advantage of this marketing and networking opportunity.

MAY / JUNE – Thermal Imagery

Thermal imagery has revolutionized the way airborne law enforcement crews perform their job, resulting in more effective and efficient ALEA missions for those that have mastered its use. For everyone else, we dedicate an entire issue to the technology, theory, tactics and legal issues regarding the use of airborne thermal imagery. Our miscellaneous technologies Affiliate Profiles look at gyro-stabilized binocular manufacturers Fraser-Volpe, LLC and Fujinon, Inc.

JULY / AUGUST – Airborne Law Enforcement-Canadian Style

In July 2004, during a region realignment, the ALEA made Canada the first country to be a standalone region. Three highly successful Safety Seminars and a TFO Course later, airborne law enforcement is booming in Canada. This issue highlights ALE operations and units from across Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories. This issue’s miscellaneous technologies spotlight is on Canada-based audio communication equipment manufacturers National Airborne Technology, Ltd. and Technisonic Industries, Ltd, and U.S. based Wulfsberg Electronics.

SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER – Technology

Our annual look at the latest advances and innovations in technology to assist in safer, more effective and more efficient airborne law enforcement. While we provide an overview of all advancing technology, we also focus on selected technologies, providing expanded coverage of these areas. Complimenting this issue’s focus on technology, we look at the engine inlet barrier filter systems producers Aerospace Filtration Systems, Inc. and FDC/aerofilter. Also included is a look back at the 38th Annual Conference and Exposition, recapping all the highlights

NOVEMBER / DECEMBER – Firefighting Operations

As mission profiles expand, many airborne law enforcement units have added firefighting operations to their capabilities. Our final issue of 2008 examines the equipment and training needed to safely perform these missions, as well as highlights units performing these operations.  Firefighting mission equipment manufacturer Simplex Manufacturing is highlighted in the final Affiliate Profile featuring manufacturers of miscellaneous technologies.
